For more than 60 years, metre fabrics have defined IKEA’s identity and our love of printed textiles. In the 1960s the textile department was the largest section in IKEA stores as shoppers flocked to buy metres of fabric to make curtains and covers for the home. Over the decades IKEA became known for its creative, experimental patterns created by leading textile artists and designers, from 10-gruppen and Inez Svensson to Sven Fristedt and Nina Jobs.

2024 saw the opening of Magical Patterns at the IKEA Museum, an exhibition featuring 180 fabrics dyed with some of our most famous patterns and prints. The exhibition reveals some of the creative processes behind the patterns, while inspiring visitors to embrace patterned textiles around the home.
